Enzymes
Recently enzymes have been used in animal nutrition, mainly for
monogastric animals. When administered through feed, enzymes
generally catalyze chemical reactions which lead to increase
digestibility of nutrients and improve in the feed ingredients;
which consequently leads to the much better utilization of the feed
intake.
Enzymes are obtained by fermentation; primarily used for the
following purposes: Increasing the availability/
convertibility of feed ingredients Degrading or destroying
anti-nutritive substances Supplementing/ supporting
endogenous enzymes
Enzymes are primarily responsible for better conservation of
minerals (by use of Phytase) or nutrients (by use of Non Starch
Polysaccharides hydrolyzing enzymes). This in turn results in a
reduction of the nutrients excreted in the manure, which also
results in the reduction of environmental burden, reducing the cost
of feed.
